RoboMasterminds
We are pleased to announce the start of the City of York’s RoboMasterminds FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) high school robotics team which was made possible with a $5500 community grant from the York Country Community Foundation, $500 FIRST FTC Rookie grant, and $1000 Arconic Foundation grant. Thank you! This program would not be possible without your support.
We are looking for students who have an interest in:
- Coding (JAVA, Python, C, Javascript, etc.)
- Building (wood, metal, plexi, etc.)
- Designing (drawing, CAD, 3D printing, etc.)
- Electronics (wiring, circuits, etc.)
- Robotics/Automation (engineering, electrical, mechanical, etc.)
- Gaming (driving, mods, etc.)
- Marketing (social media, website, graphic design, etc.)
FIRST Tech Challenge team members in 7th-12th grades are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have!”
Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEAM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. The robot kit is reusable from year to year and can be programmed using Java. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards. Participants have access to millions of dollars in college scholarships. Each season concludes with Super-Regional Championships and an exciting FIRST Championship.
Whether you already have some of these skills or just want to learn, we want you to join the new RoboMasterminds FTC robotics team. Join the fun. Make new friends. Change the world.
The community can help us help our students by sponsoring one of our team members. You can select a student’s name from the dropbox below and enter an amount you would like to donate. If you or your small business submit a sponsorship of $50 or more, that particular team member will wear your name or small business name on the back of their team shirt. For larger companies/organizations that want to support our entire robotics program, please visit our corporate sponsorship page for more details.
